All the professional painters and painters, know well and use, of course, the layers. People who watch an artistic creation do not imagine (except rarely) the layers of layers contained in the creation.

Layers are superimposed layers of an image. The painter must imagine them, necessarily, before starting his work.

The painter succeeds in imagining his layers with the aid of the analysis of objects, spaces, mixtures of colors, and relations between the « stages » of the final image.

In all paint software there is an option called « layers« .

Layers are used to create « layers » in transparent (digital) papers that can be superimposed, changed order, or canceled.

The painter works on each layer by looking at the other layers, or imagining them.

Do this exercise with me on your computer or tablet:

A)

  1. I open 1st layer, I draw a shape:

calq 1

2. I open 2nd layer, I paint the dark side:

calq 2

3. I open 3rd layer, I paint the side clear:

calq 3

4. I open 4th layer I paint the red inside of the tube:

calq 4

5. I open 5th layer to draw black and rigid boundaries:

calq 5

B)

I close everything; I open layers 1 and 2 that give this:

calq 1+2

C)

I add the 3:

calq 1+2+3

D)

I add the 4:

calq 1+2+3+4

E)

I add the 5:  (The image of the object is almost finished and real)

calq 1+2+3+4+5

F)

J’ajoute un calque dessous (zéro) pour peindre le fond gris.

calq 1+2+3+4+5+0

G)

To finish my little painting, I create a round window (using the eraser in the 5 layers) where you can see the gray background. I give some retouches and I sign the painting:

Les Calques
