100 km from Munich, Louis II of Bavaria created the Herrenchiemsee Castle on one of the largest islands of Lake Chiemsee, at the foot of the Bavarian Alps, between 1878 and 1885.

Latona Fountain
Schloss Herrenchiemsee underlies the Bavarian administration of the state castles, gardens and lakes. It is open to the public, the gardens and the interiors can be visited. The King Ludwig II Museum has been located in the south wing of the castle since 1987.
