Salt Lake City is a city in the United States, capital of the state of Utah. It was founded in the nineteenth century by Mormon pioneers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Salt Lake City is part of the urban area at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains and called Wasatch Front. It covers an area of 286 km² in the northwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley, dominated by the Wasatch Mountains to the east and Oquirrh to the west. Its altitude varies between 1,284 and 2,870 meters.
