Works of op art are essentially abstract. The pieces give the impression of movement, brightness of light and vibration or alternate movements. These visual solicitations place the body of the spectator in an unstable situation, between pleasure and displeasure [ wikipedia.org ]

Unlike kinetic art or cinema, whose first manifestations date back to the 1910s with futurism, then some works by Marcel Duchamp or Alexander Calder, where the work is animated by movements, the effects of illusion that Produce op art works remain strictly virtual, only inscribed on the surface of the retina, the eye is the motor of the work, there is no motor in the work. Seriously, a very nice selection, Mssr.A.A. A very festive, happy feel to these pieces. I particularly like the Carlos Cruz-Diez piece – – some of the pop art patterns are also interesting because of the tricks our eyes play on us – – the illusory effects, the ghost images, sensation of movement or waves, etc. A reminder that what we see, or think we see, may be an illusion or distortion. We are after all just two-eyed animals, dependent on neurons and little gray cells that play us false
