The Alps are a mountain range extending across Europe, covering the northern border of Italy, the southeast of France, Monaco, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, southern Germany and Slovenia.
The Alps culminate at 4,809 meters, at the summit of Mont Blanc. There are 82 major summits over 4000 m above sea level. The Alps form a 1,200 km barrier between the Mediterranean and the Danube. [wikipedia.org]
