The beauty of nature’s images
(6 b) Beauty of arranged flowers:
IKEBANA art
“Only one rod never dies”. That’s the Japanese floral philosophy
Ikebana has been imagined as an echo of the beauty and variety of flowers and plants. This is a way of arranging the flowers according to ancient principles (since the 6th century). The branches and flowers are placed at specific angles to represent the ten (the sky), the chi (the earth) and the jin (the man). The way the stems are arranged symbolizes the strength, delicacy and ephemerality of living flowers. In a funny way, the word ikebana comes from ‘ikuru’ – live – and ‘hana’ – flowers: literally, ‘living flowers’. Ikebana is more than an art: its practice and philosophy are seen as a journey to self-realization. [Source: bloomon.be]
