Coffee Lhafa – Tangier
Café Lhafa (“Lhafa” – in Arabic – means the slope) created in 1921 north of the city of Tangier (Far north-west of Morocco).
Café Lhafa extends on terraces “stairs” on a slope that gives a view of very high towards the Strait of Gibraltar (13km sea), which separates Africa from Europe.
The landscape brings together the rocky beach with its fishermen, the sea with its boats “bus” (which transport the travelers every hour between Morocco and Spain), and the Spanish coast with the small town of Tarifà, that is why thousands young people spend hours in this cafe; They drink the Moroccan tea, discuss everything and nothing and dream to cross this strait towards Europe.
In this legendary café, famous artistic and literary personalities have passed from Paul Bowles to Mohamed Choukri, Jean Genet to The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Sean Connery, William Burroughs and many others.
