The building is commissioned by the association “Orféo Català” (Orphéon Catalan) who wishes to make it its headquarters. The funds come from patronage: industrialists, financiers, notables and music lovers finance the construction.
The hall’s primary vocation is to receive choral concerts, symphonic music and recitals. It is used today for all types of music, from classical to modern music.
The Palace of Catalan Music was declared a Spanish National Monument in 1971. It was then declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
