The Cinqueterre form part of the coast of the Italian Riviera, in Liguria, west of the town of La Spezia. The Cinque Terre includes five villages: from west to east, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore which are attached to the Cinque Terre National Park created in 19991.
The Cinqueterre occupy a rugged and steep landscape, on which were built over the centuries terraces allowing agriculture. The villages are built on the Mediterranean coast, in creeks and on the cliffs. Despite the construction of a road and a railroad in the twentieth century, their access remains difficult. The area of Cinqueterre is now recognized for its extraordinary character and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
