Roger Chapelain-Midy:

French painter, born on August 24, 1904 in Paris and died in this same city on March 30, 1992, he is also a lithographer, illustrator and decorator. He has won several prizes including: Grand Prize of the city of Paris in 1955 and Grand Prize of the theater of the biennial of São Paulo in 1962. He was also decorated « Commander of Arts and Letters ».

Pierre Soulages:

French painter and engraver, born December 24, 1919 in Rodez in Aveyron (he now exceeds 100 years old)

He is one of the main representatives of abstract and informal painting especially, which he began to paint since 1946. He is famous for the massive use of the color black, and for his giant canvases.
On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, the Louvre Museum presented a retrospective from December 11, 2019 to March 9, 2020 in the Salon Carré in the Denon wing with recent works by the artist

He won several prizes including: Grand Prix national de peinture in 1986, Grand prix du radiation française in 2019 and Gold Medal of the French Renaissance in May 15, 2019

Edgar Degas:

Edgar Degas, son of a banker, is a painter, engraver, sculptor and photographer, born July 19, 1834 (in Paris) and died September 27, 1917 (in Paris).

He is one of the main founding members and organizers of naturalist and impressionist exhibitions. His works were sold, at the end of the 19th century, for millions of dollars, in Paris, London and New York.

Zao wou ki:

Zao Wou-Ki, is a painter and engraver of Chinese naturalized French origin (in 1964), born on February 1, 1920 (in Beijing), and died on April 9, 2013 (in Nyon -Switzerland).
He is one of the great painters of the 20th century and especially in the style of « lyrical abstraction » (since 1950)
In France, he was appointed Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor, Commander of the National Order of Merit, Officer of Arts and Letters, and in 1995.
After all Western countries, he was recognized and welcomed in Beijing in 1983, where his works were exhibited at the National Museum of China.

  1. For those interested in the work of Pierre Soulages, there is a beautiful museum in Rodez which is entirely dedicated to him, it was designed with the artist; I have failed to visit it several times but I have only heard good reviews.
