William Merritt Chase
William Merritt Chase, is an American painter, born in Williamsburg (now Nineveh, Indiana) on November 1, 1849, died in New York on October 25, 1916. known for his commitment to Impressionism and as a teacher.
Chase was a great impressionist, who worked on all media (oil paint, pastel, ink …) and on different themes (landscapes, still lifes … and especially portraits).
In America, Chase was a member of the National Academy of Design (in New York), and a member of the Ten American Painters.
In France, he was a member of the Salon des Artistes Français,. He had won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889 and a gold medal at that of 1900.

I love impressionism. I don’t paint like this and I never will but the impressionists inspired me to paint what I want. People said their art wasn’t good. unfisnished and so the impressionists exhibited in their own salon.
