Cerro Fitz Roy (also known: Cerro Chaltén) is a mountainous mass located in Patagonia, on the border between Argentina and Chile (in the south of southern America). Its altitude is 3,405 meters. The Fitz Roy is located, both in Los Glaciares National Park (Argentina) and in Bernardo O’Higgins National Park (Chile).
The Fitz Roy is a huge granite monolith having a pyramidal shape that has been sculpted by the erosion of strong winds, snow and ice. It is made up of igneous rocks, which had solidified, among other rocks, for tens of millions of years.
The Cerro Fitz Roy was climbed for the first time, in 1952, by the two French climbers Lionel Terray and Guido Magnone.
