Saaremaa is the largest island in Estonia. Located in the Baltic Sea. It is the largest island in the Moonsund Archipelago. The area of the island is 2,714 km2, and its population is 36,000 inhabitants.
the island has been inhabited for at least 5,000 years. More than 4000 years ago the impact of meteorites formed the craters of Kaali.

The largest city on the island is Kuressaare (15,000 inhab.), Created for more than 7 centuries. The city keeps several remains of its history, especially The Castle of Kuressaare, built around 1380.
