KORCULA island – Croatia
A space of history, nature, fishing and orchards

Korčula is the most populous island in Croatia (17,000 inhab.), In the Adriatic Sea, 1,270 m from the mainland. It is a mountainous island dotted with many small fields, rich in greenery, villages of wine growers, olive oil producers and fishermen.
Length: 47 km. Width: 8 km. Maximum altitude: 568 m.
Forests occupy 2/3 of the area.


The historical and political center of the island is the town of Korčula, founded in the 4th century BC. AD by Greeks from the neighboring colony of Isa. Its fortress was built between the 14th and 15th centuries.
The city is adorned with works by Croatian and Venetian Renaissance artists such as: Marko Andrijić (15th century stonemason), Jacopo Robusti (aka Tintoretto, 16th century painter) Tiziano Aspetti (19th century sculptor), Leandro Bassano (16th-17th century painter) ….
