Singapore
Singapore (Republic) is a city-state of Southeast Asia. Its surface area is 719.1 km2. It comprises 64 islands, the main of which is Pulau Ujong (584.8 km2). It is situated on an island at the extreme south of the Malay Peninsula, from which it is separated on the north by the Straits of Johor.

History :
Tumasik (the former name of the island) was an object of dispute between Majapahit (java) and the kingdom of Ayutthaya (Thailand). In 1377
A prince of Palembang in the southern Indonesian island of Sumatra who refused the suzerainty of Majapahit after an attack of it, would have exiled himself to Tumasik. He assassinated the governor of the city and renamed the city « Singapura » (« city of the lion » in Sanskrit).
After the Dutch, Japanese and British domination, Singapore will have its independence in 1965.
