“The Battle of Alexander at Issus”

“The Battle of Alexander at Issus” is a 1529 oil painting by German artist Albrecht Altdorfer (c. 1480-1538), a pioneer of landscape art and founding member of the Danube School.
The Battle of Issus, ancient city of Cilicia in southern Anatolia, dates from 333 BC, in which Alexander the Great, king of Macedonia, won a decisive victory over Darius III of Persia.
