SKOPJE

SKOPJE is the administrative, economic and cultural capital of “North Macedonia”, in the middle of the Balkans (peninsula). Today it has almost 600,000 inhabitants.

Skopje is born first century with Romans. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 518, and rebuilt, more fortified, a few kilometers further.
After the domination of the Bulgarian and Byzantine Empires, it became the capital of the Serbian Empire in 1346. It was conquered by the Ottomans in 1392.

Because of the wars, then the fire of 1689, the city collapsed thereafter until the middle of the 18th century.
It integrated Yugoslavia and became, after World War II, the capital of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia. Then the capital of the independent Macedonian republic in 1991.

In 1963, the city was almost completely destroyed, but reconstruction was rapid and was accompanied by strong growth in investment.
With vast urban planning operations, the city became a masterpiece through these historical and modernist architectures.
