Jaume Plensa

Jaume Plensa is a contemporary Spanish sculptor, born August 23, 1955 in Barcelona. There he studied art at the Llotja school, then worked at the Henry Moore Foundation and at the Calder workshop in Saché. After the use of bronze, cast iron and wrought iron, he incorporates in his works various recovered objects, light and transparent materials.
After figurative creations, he focuses on abstraction, shapes and volumes; Before returning to the luminous figuration.

Jaume Plensa was a professor at the School of Fine Arts in Paris and is regularly invited to teach at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
He was made Chevalier des Arts by the French Ministry of Culture in 1993. He was named Doctor Honoris Causap by the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005. He was awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts (Spain) in 2012, and Premio Velázquez by Artes Plásticas, in 2013.
