André DERAIN

André Derain is a French painter, born June 10, 1880 in Yvelines and died September 8, 1954 in Hauts-de-Seine. He is also a set painter, engraver, sculptor and writer.
André Derain is known as the pioneer of a new style of art: Fauvism.
From before the First World War, Derain practiced a post-impressionist pictorial art, made of pure and juxtaposed colors. His subjects generally dealt with classical themes.
Derain’s art is represented in a considerable number of museums in France and around the world, with his works exceeding 80 paintings, 75 sculptures, 30 book illustrations and numerous drawings.
