Sumba is an island in Indonesia. It is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It borders the Savu Sea to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south.
The island of Sumba has an area of 11,153 km2 (220 km long by 40 to 70 km wide).
The highest point on the island is Gunung Wanggameti (1,225 meters).
Its population is approximately 700,000. Its main city is Waingapu (36,000 inhabitants).
Tourism is growing on Sumba Island thanks to its beautiful nature, deciduous monsoon forests, special species of birds, traditional villages, megalithic tombs, new luxury hotels, and two airports.
