Velika Planina
Velika Planina is a mountain pasture in the Slovenian Alps, near Kamniška Bistrica in the Upper Carniola region of northern Slovenia. It is a huge village made of all wooden huts. It is also a very small ski resort.
Velika Planina is located in heights between 1412m and 1666m.
The shepherds arrive in the village at the end of spring, with their cows, sheep and horses. The pastures are particularly lively in June, when the shepherds take up residence in their chalets and are preparing to spend the summer season until September.
The village is an ideal place for lovers of cultural events, floral exhibitions, dairy specialties (especially local cheese) and folk and artistic festivals.
