Orientalist painting is not a pictorial movement properly so called. It is a subject, and an inspiration, which brings together in the nineteenth century painters of different styles.

The themes of this painting represent the Arab world, Turkish Near East and Maghreb. The scenes focus on the real life of the Arabs and the Oriental universe of the Thousand and One Nights (the exoticism of the intimate life of the harems, the heroic warriors, life in the cities of a mythical world … .)
Orientalism was a cultural consequence of the Napoleonic campaigns in Egypt that opened the way to western infatuation for the East. Artists are seduced by this new culture (in their eyes) and recount it in painting using motifs inspired by Arabic art.[histoiredelart.net]

Artist: Fabio Fabbi

Italian painter, born in Bologna on 18 July 1861, died at Casalecchio di Reno on 24 September 1946.
Pupil at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, pus professor in 1893. He specializes in oriental painting.
 Initially a sculptor, he began painting and became a member of the Florence Academy. He then exhibited abroad. He also received numerous illustrations for the youth. He was named Cavaliere della corone d’Italia in 1898.
